Canada Creek 2009 Coaster:

On 14th November 2007, Thorpe Park's plans for their new Coaster in Canada Creek were approved - and it looks to be a very different ride for Thorpe. It's a Gerstlauer Eurofighter Coaster, where riders can experience a beyond-vertical drop! Yes, eat your heart out Oblivion at Alton Towers, because in 2009 visitors to Thorpe Park can experience a 97° drop at a height of 100ft!

The Coaster will primarily use the newly reclaimed land adjacent to Samurai, but will also wind it's way behind Samurai and alongside Logger's Leap. A significant part of the ride is all set to happen inside the station, and it's nice to see that like Nemesis Inferno, there is a bit of a pre-show before the actual ride itself.

There are currently 8 different Eurofighters around the world at the moment: "Rage" at Adventure Island, Britain; "Speed" at Oakwood, Wales; "Mystery Mine" at Dollywood, USA; "Typhoon" at Bobbejaanland, Belgium; "Vild Svinet" at BonBon-Land, Denmark; "Rick's Delight" at Duinrell, Holland (2008); "SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge" at Nickelodeon Universe, USA (2008) and "Unknown Name" at Zoosafari Fasanolandia, Italy (2008). All are different, but all contain that impressive 97° drop. Riders are arranged in trains that seat 4 across in 2 rows, for a total of 8 riders per car. Click on the above links for photos of the existing models. Gerstlauer's Brochure for the Eurofighter can be found here.

The 2009 Coaster looks to have an impressive layout:

  • Zero-G Roll
  • Vertical Lift Hill
  • 97 Degree Drop
  • Immelmann Loop
  • Immelmann Turn
  • Block Breaks
  • Over banked Turn
  • Block Breaks
  • Dive Loop
  • Break Run

It is thought that the Coaster will have a "Mining/Machinery" theme to it, and it looks like Thorpe Park have really gone to town with the theming for the ride - they've even planned for a windmill! Let's just hope that, unlike Stealth, we don't get budget cuts halfway through the ride's realisation...

There's sure to be a lot more info about this new ride over the next couple of months. Stick with Total Thorpe Park for all the new developments as they happen.
